Silky Terriers originate in Australia. Silky Terriers are descended from and closely resemble Yorkshire Terriers. Silky Terriers have been officially recognized as their own breed in Australia since 1955. The Silky Terrier is also known as the Sydney Terrier. Silky Terriers became popular in the U.S. after World War II, when servicemen stationed in Australia brought the little dogs home.
